The Ganesh Nagar public library in Kattur, Tiruchi, is facing a space crunch, leaving readers without a proper place to sit and read. Local residents have urged the Tiruchi Corporation to address this issue and create a designated reading space.
For years, the library has been operating out of a cramped building, accommodating only a handful of readers at a time. The limited space forces many visitors to stand and read, hindering a comfortable reading experience.
The library, established two decades ago under the Ellakudy Panchayat, has struggled to keep up with the growing demand as the area was incorporated into the Tiruchi Corporation limits in 2010. The lack of infrastructure to accommodate the increasing footfall has further exacerbated the problem.
Ward 39 Councillor L. Rex believes that there is ample space outside the library to set up a reading area. He suggests installing a shed with seating arrangements to provide a comfortable reading environment.
A senior Corporation official has assured that steps will be taken to address the issue and provide the necessary facilities for readers.
The library houses over 800 books on various subjects, but its potential remains untapped due to the lack of reader-friendly space. It’s high time the authorities take action to ensure that this valuable resource is accessible to all.
